SBIR Commercialization

A disruptive or "game changing" technology can be the "grand slam" of new product development. Although R&D can be extremely expensive, there are public funding programs that can provide assistance. The U.S. Government's Office of Technology provides funding for new and innovative R&D efforts through the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Federal funding is available from multiple government agencies including the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, DARPA, NASA, the EPA and the National Science Foundation, among others.

These agencies provide grants for the critical startup and development stages of new technologies and encourage the commercialization of the technology, product or service. These programs are one way to attract capital to further support your technology R&D efforts.
